In those days Channel 9 used to have a one hour show every Saturday in 1968- 1970 which would have Roller Game matches from the States. It was called Roller Game, not Roller Derby, I presume for trademark reasons. Games between the LA T-Birds with Ralphie Valladeres, the Detroit Devils with Leroy Gonzales and Lenny the Chickenman Silverman, New York Bombers coached by Ronnie Rains and the Texas Outlaws with Big Jim Trotter and Shirley Hardman. Sometimes there was, I think, the Chicago Hawks, if memory serves well. It was ten years before we got video recorders, so unless Channel 9 has archival footage, or the games become available on DVD, I don't have any answers, but I'd like to see those as much as you. Were you in the Detroit Devils, and during which era?

As you know, in those days we did not have the abundance of digital cameras or mobile phone cameras, so I dont have any photos. I went to Festival hall in Brisbane a few years ago before it was pulled down to see if they had any old posters etc. laying around but they had nothing. So I only have some great memories of the games there. I do have a Roller Games Annual that I bought from the USA in the 1970's I think. I bought a dvd from ebay that had a few scenes from the old days but I would really like to find a source of achived film that Ch 9 screened in the 60's and 70's and watch them again. If you know of any please let me know.
I hope that it all gets going again. There is a team of girls at the Beenleigh/ Logan area but I have not ben up to see them play. They got a bit of coverage in the paper and on the ABC a few weeks ago so its good to know that some people are being serious about the Roller Games again. Regards Paul
