Yes Larry was a great skater. I remember the great jams he had with Richard Brown when Richard was with the Warriors. I forget the name of the team Larry was on at the time; I believe it was with Ronnie Reins.

Skating the way it use to be!

There's a fair bit of variation in the shorts on that team, actually. The unis look more coherent than WRF's tended to though. I notice on most 80s IRSL derby a tendency to throw away their elbow pads. IRSL really made a lot of use of the instant r…

Love the blue T-Bird shorts Jesus Negron's wearing - they complement the Pioneer unis far better than the original IRDL shorts Seltzer used!

I liked the Wind up blocks, thats all for show, And would probably do them if I ever got to skate just to "hype" the crowd. AND Hopefully deck the jammer. at 5'9 175 I am blocker material. anyway, I will keep trying to add the entire game.

I agree poobah!!! and now this is why If I never get to skate .... I will be a manager. I would not allow Hill to block Larry Lewis or Mike Gammon , until the 2 nd 1/2 of the period - after they are all a little tired. With Jojo Stafford out they ha…

If you are a player, who do you presently skate for?
I am probably not trained to skate on a team but would be willing to learn. I do plan to try to become a ref for the Milwaukee Mauraders womens team this next season.
Are you a newbie with a desire to skate on a team?

About Me:
I like roller games, and roller derby as well. I used to be an aspiring skater in the past,Even had my gimmick, I was going to be The " DISC JOCKEY OF DESTRUCTION" but never got anywhere as Milwaukee didnt have a lot of roller derby teams back then. Being 175 pounds, 5 ft - 9 inch tall, I am destined to be a blocker. I do ok as a DJ and am a great remixer of classic songs for Weddings , disco partys, night clubs, or other things. I still skate and blade almost every day and am a good skater, but feel at 44 I am too old to pursue it anymore unless we get a flat track mens team here in Milwaukee. If that happens I will try out for it. I am also going to become a ref, for the Milwaukee womens flat track team, and try to train with them a little, I am in pretty good shape, and already skate every day.
Favorite RollerGames/RollerDerby Team:
Outlaws - Quakes - Bay Bombers, and any team Ann Calvello Was on.
Favorite RollerGames/RollerDerby Player:
Diane Syverson - Ann Calvello - Bill Hill - Danny Rielly - Joan Weston - Karem Maggnussen
Favorite RollerGames/RollerDerby grudge between players:
Shirley Hardman vs. Joanie Weston - Charlie o vs. Ken Monte - Larry Lewis vs. Sam Washington
I want RollerSports action to come to my town so that I can see it live.
yes
I am a skater, and would like to know how I can try out for a team.
yes
The thing I remember most about RollerGames/RollerDerby is:
roller games started off great, with good skating, and hard hitting, but then turned into a circus and lost all of its credability. But I was amazed at how good they actually were and even the big skaters had to have some conditioning , its a lot of work to be a skater. One day I will probably get to skate a real game, it will probably be the arsd, they like the older skaters, right Tim- lol
My Favorite Music:
all types of music, I am a dj and remix music if anyone is interested, I create old school dance music remixed with current trends, if you like music please hit me up! I will post some on my page-- as a dj I go by the name "DJ HUFFNPUFF"DONT FORGET TO JOIN MY MUSIC GROUP"
My Favorite TV Shows:
American Gladiators - Justice League - adult swim - most of the offbeat and crazy stuff some reality tv. I saw the episode of Jerry Springer with Mark Weber of the HOT dice on it. i AM A CARTOON MANIAC.
Something nobody knows about me:
That I like to write poetry, as well as Compose music on my computer,I have a green thumb and grow 50 houseplants, and I collect tropical fish and have 5 50 gallon fish tanks set up in my living room, I also like to cheer for the mean skaters that are normally the villians more than the heros / good guys. I am also a former vegetarian.
I promise to upload my picture to my profile:

Roller babes: the book - If you read it what do you think?

I read the book "Roller babes" Written by Tim Patten. I found it quite the time warp, with 50's cool lingo. - I wasn't born then- lol. I found it to be a little depressing, but in ways uplifting, some of the highlights I will mention are the Direct quotes used by a couple of the skaters. Clear references to some of the most well known skaters, and the fact that the derby was basically available to anyone that wanted to skate for it. What I also found even more poignant, want the conclusion, in w… Continue

I was trying to comment on that clip but accidently deleted it, please repost it for me Tim - and as for the young skaters,I race with 20,ish skaters in my neighborhood all the time, and can keep up. but I dont block them, they never heard of roller derby.

Thanks... I blush ;) Peanut and I are skating for the Red Devils in San Fran this weekend. Oh and of course I know what a tailgate is... duh. I'm an east coast gal after all ;) I have a ton of music that you would prob love! I'd love to get my hands on some two skinny J's remixes if you are up to it... Our track (in Vegas) is one good weekend away from being totally rebuilt so we will be doing some Vegas skating as well!

There was a nice mixed-team scrimmage at WFTDA Western Regionals that was held between a couple of the bouts there.

Quadzilla (AKA Mo) skated in it, as did my friend Justice Feelgood Marshall (another "skater of color"). Justice is the head referee from the Baltimore WFTDA league who skates on the side in the men's league there. And co-owns and writes for a derby news website. And is on the WFTDA rules committee.

He's also a great jammer who has a weird looking side-steppy style that sometimes blows people's minds. They think it's all wrong but they don't argue with his success with it.

He actually skated what looked like a 3-0 shutout against Quadzilla in the scrimmage there (a teammate making the right block at the right time helped a bunch, as did calling it on time).
