It saddens me to say this Linda, but the economics for bringing back the "Roller Games" aren't there anymore, and I've grown to love today's grassroots game even more today than the memories of recent past derbies on TV ! :(

As a veteran Boston Derby Dames fan, I must say that I love your last pair of statements, and while we're at it how about we rag on the ARSD promoter Dan Ferrari and his "cheerleader" , Tim Patten for their stubborn refusal to wake up with the times…

Mr. Maschine, I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before the WFTDA looks at the jammer/pivot rule you explained on your last post !

Another example of "Moving Forward" . Thanks Mr. Maschine ! =)

While we're at it, how about declaring the end of deliberately choreographed WWE stunts, and following the example of the L.A Derby Dolls or TXRD, I was the last to enjoy so-called wrestling on wheels when it had its last moments on modern TV, but e…

Ironic that the game is taking place on the late "Ralphie's" birthday.

I'll see what I can do then! =)

They were the Northeast Braves by then, but sometimes, the ticket printers didn't get Jerry's notes in time and still called them the New England Braves. However, in 1970 Jerry was starting the process of resurrecting the NY Chiefs, and as part of t…

I found Keith Coppage's Facebook profile photo used for the "Holiday". I'ts a 1970 Roller Derby League ticket stub with the BOMBERS / NEW ENGLAND BRAVES matchup in the Cow Palace featured in bold letters. I'm not sure if I'll ever find similar stubs…

And a big ditto from what was to have been the home base of the Cincinnati Jolters of the aborted Roller Derby Premier League! GO CINCINNATI JOLTER BLUE!

Especially for the purpose of celebrating this sport, I'll claim the late Linda Sacco as family. :') As for the Braves, I need to do some research on that soon . So long for now, and happy "I Love Roller Derby Day" !

The thing I remember most about RollerGames/RollerDerby is:
The whole producton from 1989 totally blew me away! If it weren't for the economics, the "rasslin' czars" would've been blown out of the water a long time ago! I'm continuing to study the sport's heritage as well as enjoy it's legacies!
My Favorite Music:
My musical tastes are "eccentric" I'll listen to almost anything!
My Favorite TV Shows:
Don't watch too much TV these days
Something nobody knows about me:
I'm the only fan in BOSTON DERBY DAMES history to be "assigned" and escorted from the grandstands to the ringside floor area, (standing room by the VIP seats) at the Shriners' Auditorium by league security. I've been happy to be "stuck" there since. As of August 9 2008, I've also been labelled as their "SUPER FAN"!

The Boston team could use help. I use metrics to make judgements about the bomber team.

Youtube views and the comments are pert of those metrics. There are other business metrics also that help make business decisions

Boston Derby Dames Video on Youtube has about 6,000 views. Bombers has 450,000 views?

Hey Anthony,
You wouldn't happen to be a distant relative of Linda Sacco, an East Coast skater who was on the roster of my beloved Cincinnati Jolters in the last year of the original IRDL's existence, 1973? BTW, I also suspect Beantown may have been host to a Eastern (Philly) Warriors game or two in that pre-'72 era as well - I've got a feeling you might be able to confirm that if you really do some sleuthing! In any case, see you in two weeks!

Hey OGJ,
Apology accepted! Back in the halcyon days of the original IRDL, Boston and environs was part of the Chiefs home territory, although if you want to do the research on it to confirm it, I suspect the New England Braves did skate a token home game or two back in the pre-1972 era, much like the Pioneers in the Midwest and the Cards in the PNW, mainly during the off-season (in the Bay Area, that is) tours. If you want to do the research and post the newspaper clippings and pix, game ads, et. al. on this website, go for it! If you do, let us know what you turn up!

Yeah, I think she founded Providence as well.

We're very happy to have her here coaching. I kinda hope she'll come out of retirement once we're members.

Derby skaters who retire have a funny way of always coming back. I think Pia Mess is on her third or fourth derby retirement by now?

I also know that Doom skated for Providence after she relocated from Tucson, AZ.

Cool DJD. We're pretty friendly with Boston. We "stole" our travel team coach Sarah Doom from their league. OK, she retired, moved here for a new job after getting her PhD and just had a beautiful baby daughter. We also bouted a team from her league before Boston, Providence Roller Derby.

The problem for me with Shriner venues is that my wearing a fez there without being one of them would tend to cause some awkward moments. I should make a folded newspaper pirate hat and put one of my tassels on it. Better yet, a Turkish or Moroccan newspaper. Note to self, before leaving town, head to News of the World.

Maybe I just need a derby hat that's a derby hat? Or a "roller bowler," heh.
