My bad....I thought she was on the Bad Attitude. I think Patsy was on Bad Attitude. Oh well, I'm an old fart and can't remember all the details, but I just love Derby. :-) BTW....Patsy started skating in 1976, but didn't start skating in a bigger role until the following year. Stephanie also started skating around 1977 as well. Pstsy was on the T-Birds, and Stephanie was on either the Detroit Devils or The NY Bombers, sometimes the Texas Outlaws. She skated for the T-birds for a year or so in 1985 though part of 1986, then in mid 1986, they put the Renegades team back into the games, and Georgia Hase kept taunting Stephanie to join the Renegades. This was a game that Debbie Garvey returned to the game. Stephanie finally joined the Renegades, and even changed her jersey on track. It was a great game to watch. The game was held at the Anaheim Convulsion Center...even at the Anaheim Convention Center in 1986.
Back then, Stephanie Garcia was continuing a tradition that the late great Ann Calvello started, setting the standards of "punk appeal". In case anyone didn't know, Ms. Garcia skated for the "VIOLATORS", her make-up job reflected the lightning bolt symbols on that teams logo. She claimed on that show that only "she" was allowed to doll her face up in that manner back then !
I started off by watching the old T-Bird games in the mid 70's, then started going to the games in the mid 80's....from about late 1984-mid 1986. I didn't go to any games until the summer of 2008, and it's a game I still love to watch. I saw when Patsy and Stephanie first started skating....some of the skaters skating today, I saw skating when I went to the games in the 80's. I'm glad I got to meet them and become friends with them as well. A friend of mine used to skate witht he T-Birds back in the early 80's, and we were talking one day about the Derby, and he told me that the people in this sport you thought were the meanest and nastiest people, were actually the nicest people you could ever meet. He was definitely right. :-)
Yeah I'm a youngin so while Rollergames was going on, it was the only thing I knew of Roller derby in general except for my parents "back in the day' stories of Roller Derby past. I'm meeting and playing with all of these exceptional, and incredible skaters. I'm loving every minute of it so far!
Yup....Stephanie was on a team called "Bad Attitude". I think the personality she has on track, fit right in with the name of the team. She kicked ass and took names! Hard to believe that Rock and Rollergames was almost 20 years ago. We're talking the very early 1990's. Now I feel old! LOL
