They'd almost HAVE TO remove the music. That'd be a licensing nightmare. With the Ramones you're not only dealing with musicians, you're dealing with musicians' estates. Priscilla and Lisa Marie make more off of Elvis now than he ever made while he was alive, probably even adjusted for inflation.

There's almost no full games of any form of classic roller derby recorded. Reason being you could take four twelve minute periods and get 48 minutes (plus an interview if you cut it out of the fifth period's time) of television. Roller derby isn't like baseball or football where they are going to let the show run as long as it needs to.

You have to wonder if sometimes the second half they show wasn't actually the first half of one of the other games? Who'd have known? No derby show ever announced the dates the games were actually played. Sometimes I wonder how the folks selling DVDs on eBay figure out the dates of the games when they have that.

I wholeheartedly agree with you James. Let's put RollerGames on DVD with a locker of bonus features like deleted scenes, match races lost interviews , skater galleries(Both in uniform and causual clothes). It'd be snapped up in a minutes.

It's been atleast 20 years since the original airing of RNR rollergames. And it's weak rerun RGI minus the rock music. I think it should be released on DVD. As well as the early 70's series. Which unfortunatley ESPN classic did not do it any justice. By only showing half a game. Which is a waste or sir space if it isn't going to show the whole game. And to top that off it only aired early in the morning. If American Gladiators can make a come back. So can RollerGames. Too many excuses of why it isn't back. The remake of RollerBall showed that alot of people like rollersports. I am probbaly like alot of people are tired of waiting for a release of a dvd. And just getting excuses why it's not been done yet. If they can put old tv series. Like Dallas, Dukes of Hazard. Original Battlestar galactica on dvd. I really don't see why RNR rollergames is not on dvd. anyways that is just my humble opinion.

I don't know where to start with Mr. Sams, but there is a cult market for the '89-'90 series. Until the cult market is motivated and moved, there will never be a mainstream market for the '89-'90 series. I don't see the '89-'90 format returning, if American Gladiators could'nt cut it, this won't either.

Now, if this series was released, you know Mr. Sams and You should tell everyone, the rock bands would not be on it. If the Spellings are too cheap, and Paramount and Universal are too cheap to pay the publishing rights for background songs on their TV DVD sets (that's why your favourite show that you notice has cheesy music in the background and not the original song you remeber), Then You or who ever owns the rights to the series certainly won't. I would not want anything but every second of the original series.

This discussion anyway is about the original 1960 - 1988 RollerGames and getting those on DVD.

More later...

Father James, during the 1976 - 1980 years, the games were recorded complete, but the Griffiths would save the first halfs and in the off season record new commentary and present these as second half games.

The only complete 8 period games were special games like the President's Cup.

Starting in 1981 because of a much reduced schedule, games were presented complete, first half one week, second half the other.

best,

Larry

Friends:

I appreciate your love for our original series, but need to set the record straight.

Please be advised that the 1989-1990 RollerGames series is currently not for sale on DVD or Video by any authorized entity. It may, or may not, be released at some point in the future--that is yet to be determined.

Anyone selling DVDs or VHS tapes of the 1989-1990 series is most-likely selling "off-air" copies. I should know, as I am in control of all original masters and broadcast tapes.

If you obtain copies of the 1989-1990 series, please be advised that these have NOT BE AUTHORIZED for commercial sale or distribution.

As to answer your questions about when this original series will be released, I will say that it makes perfect sense to release it WHEN THERE IS A MARKET DEMAND FOR IT. Bottom line: It makes the most sense to release this series once we get the sport back on the air and millions of people are exposed to it.

Honestly I should have recorded the whole series. But unfortunately I started watching it couple weeks after it had started so I missed the whole commisioners cup tournament.
