If you are looking to get a good pair of roller skates that will last you the next 10 years, it would be best to invest in a leather boot with an aluminum chassis/plate under the boot. A leather roller skate boot will give you good ankle support and comfort. The aluminum chassis is heavier duty and lasts longer than a composite/plastic chassis. I recommend a custom roller skate packages with Riedell, Vanilla & Sure-Grip and BONT. I have friends in high places, so i have tryed most all the skates on the Business skate market!

The consensus on the Bonts is that they fit nice once molded (or custom fit) but that they aren't very durable given the high price.
This is how a pair looked after use in one practice.

i got my first pair of real roller rink skates when i was 15 yrs. old in 1972.
i wore them for over 15 years, to the rink skating & for derby. they fit perfect, broken in just right. then someone stole them out of my van! bummer. ralphie helped me get new ones, but they are just not the same.
