The Rumor Mill: Live Gators Back in the Game? TV Exec Recommends Adding Electric Chair!

There was a time when--and only when--a game would go into Sudden Death Overtime and live Gators would be brought out to the track and put into the Gator Pit. In order to win a game, you would have to knock your opponent into the pit to score the winning game point. RollerGame Players were furious over the inclusion of live Gators--half wanted the creatures, half DID NOT! Now, there are rumors that the gators will be coming back. Officials are currently not commenting on these rumors. However, word has it that TV executives who are considering putting roller sports on the air may, in fact, demand it! Says one TV exec who wishes to go unnamed, "Live Gators are being considered, as are a pack of wild coyotes and wolves. The TV audience is very demanding. They want to see blood!" What do you think, should wild animals be part of SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME? (Note: See my follow up conversation with this TV exec below, where he also recommends that we add an electric chair element at the end of each game!).

I seriously doubt a freak show is what they're trying to get. But with tv execs anything is possible. Unfortunately.

You can call it a freak show, if you like, but skaters like Charlie, Joanie, Annie and the rest of the classic Derby skaters excelled at the game and it always looked good. That is something that MOST of the people who followed did not do. It often looked like a "show" in later years.

When the skills went down, the gimmicks went up.

First of all i just want to say i look foward to the new Rollergames.I will admit they shouldn't have any alligators that was the only thing i didn't like.I liked everything else though. As for rollerjam their were certainly things i really liked like the great skaters and some of the moves Jason Mcdanial did were in incredible. The other thing I felt was a big mistake was when they went overboard with the storylines.Im pretty openminded but when the last season especially it became mostly storylines and hardly any skating. As for the sex appeal part of it i felt the woman were alll good skaters and alot of them were very pretty as well and that was fine but when you go overboard with it you are going to drive fans away.Take the bod-squad i thought they were all good skaters and pretty and the outfits didn't offend me but doing stuff like having Sean atkinson being Mark Dmatos brother that kind of stuff turned alot of people off.In closing i just want to say i really liked the comments made by Stacey Blitsch she was great when she was in rollerjam and she made alot of good points in her post,

Thanks Jim for the support...I agree that Roller Jam went WAY overboard the last season with the storylines... my idea was to do a storyline about me trying to put together a RJ tour...I am not even sure if those shows aired...but anyway my storyline lasted about 1 episode before it got drowned out by Sean Atkinsons kidney ordeal or rehab or something...What a mess.... But anyway my idea was to get skaters to join me in my campaign of taking RJ on tour.... I thought it was a good idea, I guess the "others" didn't think so!!

I Can Agree On the Gators. But not everything else! are they out of their minds i'd rathers see the gators than total Alcatrazian Mayhem NO COYOTES NO WOLVES And Certainly NO STINKING ELECTRIC CHAIR Only RollerGators Other Things Theyre Nuts Don't Think of Gators As Predatorial Vicious Monsters Think of them as Three Things Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner Also A midnight Snack we can't be afraid of Rollergators Because They are a Tasty Meal! HA HA HA !!

I love the old style Roller Games/Derby when skaters abilitiy was what brought the true fans in. I would not waste my time watching aligators, electric chairs and all that over the top rubbish. It is suppose to be a sport with talented athlethes not a circus or freak show. I think the figure 8 track would be great. I am sure that we can modernise the game without spoiling it. Other sports manage to keep their integrity why can't Roller Games/Derby?

You will be on the air for six (or less) games and you will ruin all hope for a successful comeback for the games, probably forever. Now since you have been in the TV business for 30 years, I trust that you remember the last time all of that garbage was incorporated into the games. It was an abysmal failure and an insult to the fans' intelligence and to the sport itself. Tell me, Dave, do you see electric chairs in baseball? Football? Hockey? Do you see alligator pits in Basketball? Maybe wild coyotes might get a better season out of the Philadelphia Eagles but they haven't been incorporated into the game as of yet. I can see right now that left up to these devices, this will be a monstrous waste of time, talent and effort.

You know I like old movies, films like Casablanca, The Big Sleep, film noir, etc. and do you know why? Because these were films that were made before the age of CGI, when actors and actresses had to ACT! Get it? The old games lasted as long as they did because the skaters had to SKATE! They had to rely on ATHLETIC ABILITY! It's a shame that I don't have your money and "30 years of TV know-how", if I did, I know how to bring the games back with action, style and credibility. You want WWE on wheels with porno starlets and steroids. Not cool...My parents have always told me: "Anything worth doing is worth doing right, or not at all." Take note.

there is already a successful comeback -- go check out your local flat track league

A better way to put that would be "go check out your local legit roller derby league."

Not all of which happen to be flat track.
