The Rumor Mill: Live Gators Back in the Game? TV Exec Recommends Adding Electric Chair!

There was a time when--and only when--a game would go into Sudden Death Overtime and live Gators would be brought out to the track and put into the Gator Pit. In order to win a game, you would have to knock your opponent into the pit to score the winning game point. RollerGame Players were furious over the inclusion of live Gators--half wanted the creatures, half DID NOT! Now, there are rumors that the gators will be coming back. Officials are currently not commenting on these rumors. However, word has it that TV executives who are considering putting roller sports on the air may, in fact, demand it! Says one TV exec who wishes to go unnamed, "Live Gators are being considered, as are a pack of wild coyotes and wolves. The TV audience is very demanding. They want to see blood!" What do you think, should wild animals be part of SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME? (Note: See my follow up conversation with this TV exec below, where he also recommends that we add an electric chair element at the end of each game!).

Aloha, Jersey Joe:

WWE cannot keep a crowd in Hawaii anymore. The last time I went a few years ago, half the crowd left after a few matches. Even their "creativity" got to be a rut and routine. You can only arouse people so much with the "show" before you start re-cycling the storylines.

Well, it's about time some of the fans have wised up, eh? I can't even watch WWE anymore. I have watched TNA - Non-Stop Wrestling, but it's gotten a bit too out of hand for me also.

Am I just getting too old? Do they even care what a guy my age thinks about Roller Sports? I doubt it.

I agree with you in that the uniforms were from the 80's and it did fit that era but I liked the Violator uniforms. They can change anything about the clothing and so forth but I don't want them to get rid of the Wall of Death. I loved seeing that. To only see skaters going around in a banked oval really would have ADD kicking in. I don't want to take anything away from those who have skated on that type of track but times change and you really need to have new challenges for skaters as well as some new skaters mixed in with some of the older ones( Stephanie Garcia, Tony Trujillo, Harold Jackson, etc.)

Aloha, Paul:

Wow, what a point you are making. Over "the next couple of weeks, the attendance became less and less. . . "

Ok, guys, did anybody sit down to figure out why something so new is already having attendance challenges?

The ideas we have here are great, creative, and works of geniuses. But, we need to ask the fans as to why they stopped coming and use the Southern California "response" as a sampler of what may be nationally the same.

I did watch David Sam's video and I think he was a genius by putting it there, because from a media standpoint, the video was impressive But, honestly, even though I like to be absolutely open-minded, I was initially impressed and eventually bored. Maybe it is just me, but am I alone?

Good fun video, though.

Aloha,

Adrian

Hi Dr.,

In my opinion, I think there were several factors contributing to the decline in the Rock and Roller Games live audience. Among them: 1) the "Roller Derby" wasn't what the former Roller Derby / Roller Games audience expected... as elaborated by others who have posted, 2) some did not like the prolonged game breaks at half time for the "Rock" portion (that was later changed, and the music was taped before the game), 3) some of the infield managers were were over the top. Some of that goes a long way, but too much detracts from the game, and 4) there were numerous production delays. Those first couple of tapings were way over the attention span of most of the audience. (I can't tell you how many times the teams entries through the tunnel was shot but it took so long that I wanted to send out for pizza somewhere around the second hour).

Overall I thought the skaters did a good job...but I didn't care for the uniforms or the skater nicknames. I just had a hard time relating to the "names." Give me a fake name if you must, but I want some type of name that I can relate to. I don't relate to a title used as a name.

I think the skater's got to be charasmatic >>> or least to draw the attention of the MTV crowd >>> thats why I hope David Sams can give a chance to the skater pictured in my ID >>> Punky Bruiser

Definitely no live animals or electric chairs or other gimmicks. No one will ever take Roller Games seriously with junk like that. It makes Roller Games look worse than pro wrestling.

why is this even a discussion?

this appears to be a round about way of saying "there's going to be an alligator pit" or worse (if thats possible)

Honestly I said it before and I will say it again. The wall of death and the jump ramp. We don't need the gators. Although it was kinda funny when someone got wet in the pit though. Minus the gators.

Aren't you glad they're calling it "Rollersport" (though I suppose that might depend on how the case proceeds) rather than "Roller Derby?" Though from what I've seen in the videos that have been highlighted, the sport aspect seems a bit questionable to me.

hey bill nagy.... pull your head out of your bum

perhaps your unaware of jerry seltzer's support of modern roller derby
get your facts straight before you mouth off

roller derby used to be great... then sams and co turned it into a circus and now its great again

if anything would make leo seltzer turn over in his grave it's be the roller games circus that we dont need to see ever again
