The Rumor Mill: HalfTime To Include Grudge Matches and More???

As the format for the new Television series is coming into focus, several features are rumored to be in planning stages for HalfTime. Some options include one-on-one grudge matches, tag-team races, kid team competitions, and celebrity games. One TV Exec even recommended a half-time segment called "Midget Derby." What are your thoughts about half-time in prime-time? Will these stunts attract more viewers?

go back to having Rock and Hip Hop bands play at halftime a little tunes for everyone. Kid team competitions and celebrity match race games would be cool. I dont know if the Midget Derby thing will work? If the TV Exec like's that - then so be it, but then we will have a freak show for the TV viewers.

LETS KEEP IT REAL AND FORGET THE FREAKY FEATURES

Match Races at Halftime would be fine...The Midgets (Little People) no way...Celebrities we see enough of them the only sports celebs we should see are the fine skaters. Thanks

If I had my choice, it would be 1/2 time match races also.

I would like to see this version of Roller Games be a lot more sport and a lot less show.

I agree to an extent. Match races would be great.

I agree that some sort of Half-Time show should be present. One-on-one grudge matches and kid competition's sound great. I think getting the youth involed would only be an asset to the sport. I think having midget (and I do hope you mean children and not "Small Adult People") or celebrity competition will only send the wrong message and may even hurt the sport, unless you ar talking about children. Maybe even a segment on special stunts or moves like BRIAN "THE BLADE" GAMBLE performs!!

What about some Extreme Roller Skating for the half-time show? Airials & Handplants...basically my kinda thing. Just to show other things you can do on a pair of roller skates.

I don't see any point in televising people who can't skate effectively. Be they celebrities, children or little people. Sounds to me like you're using your previous "electric chair and alligators" tactic with the "midgets" to get us to see the other options as the reasonable alternatives. I seriously doubt ANY TV exec is going to risk offending millions by putting on "Midget Derby."

You'd be putting people without basic skating skills in a dangerous situation. Who beyond the VH1 reality series types (as in, reality show celebs and washed up 80s rock and sitcom stars desperately seeking a chance to regain the spotlight). The Hoff, Billy Squire and Werner Klemperer probably could use some money and attention. Probably not enough to risk a nasty spiral fracture.

Skeptically yours,
Poobah

Great. These faceless 'TV execs' already have me wanting to change the channel to something else and this show hasn't even started yet. There's nothing wrong with musical guests, in fact it's a common sense move, but some of this other stuff is straight out of a bad cartoon. Midget racers? What? That's just offensive. Kids skating would be ok, but not every single week. Mix it up a little: music guest this week, match race next week, etc. Don't let it get stale. I would like to see more personality from the players, such as quick interviews or segments where we get to see players train, etc. Any celebrities should be kept as far away from a pair of skates as possible. Let's just remember this is roller derby, not pro wrestling (which seems to be the inspiration for many of these "ACME" novelties). What next? Ashlee Simpson in a match race against a masked midget who is armed with a taser and pitchfork while skating over a flaming electrified snake pit? Come to think of it...nevermind. :-)

I AGREE WITH "KEEP IT REAL"
The women's Flat track leagues have brought a sense of "legitimacy" that has been missing for quite some time, so PLEASE keep the Freaky features in the Wrestling Ring and "Off The Track" Promote this as a "REAL" sport. Match Races (I like Legal Blocking only unless it's a "Big Rivalry" then maybe "Anything Goes" But REAL ) or musical Guests and Maybe a demonstration of "Little League" (Kids) Roller Derby. I could go on about Games from the past that were hard fought and all players were "Good Sports" a good example of this is a Pioneers-Chiefs game from '73 at the end of the game Ronnie Robinson & Bob Hein are seen shaking hands and thanking the Chiefs for a Good Game we need to encourage "Good Sportsmanship" That's all I Got Denny
